Meet Amy & Mike

aka “Two Happy Boolos”

Amy Myers and Mike Baker have lived in Arlington Heights since 1998.   They love their neighbors, their street, and their whole town, which have felt welcoming since day one.  They credit Drury Lane and Arlington Heights with inspiring them to undertake their Happy Boolo Project: transforming their 1964 split level into a highly functional and sustainable home that is a gathering place for community and a cozy retreat for the two of them.

When they are not up to their Happy Boolo activities, Mike manages the copy for Hammacher Schlemmer, the oldest running catalog in the U.S. Amy runs her own business, Possibilities Connected, which focuses on helping leaders and organizations understand and inspire the behaviors that deliver business results. The two met as high-school English teachers in Virginia, teaching from the same textbook, but with very different approaches – Mike with his lesson plan scribbled on a page, Amy with her tome of research.   Amy is from Barrington IL, a suburb of Chicago.  Mike is from the mountains of Virginia in Blacksburg, VA and earlier on from Columbia, MO.

Over their 23 years of marriage, they have enjoyed a shared passion for good food and giving a good time to family, friends, and neighbors.  In the past decade, they have become avid gardeners and creators of meals using as much of their own produce as possible.

In recent years, they have realized that what is most important to them is making an impact on community.  They see this project as just that: a journey they hope benefits others. They feel if even one or two people benefit from what they are doing, then the investment and journey was all worth it.
